Catalogs, Shopping Carts, & Credit Cards - required eCommerce features.

Here are a few of the more common features you need to have on your web site to sell products or services over the internet.

  • Online Catalogs
  • If you plan to sell products or services on the internet you will need to have a catalog of some kind, catalogs can be simple or complex depending on what your needs. I offer a number of levels of catalog pricing depending on what functionality you need your catalog to perform.
  • Level One Catalogs - These are the simplest catalogs, they consist of one page showing an image, description, and cost for each product or service you wish to offer. Show Me
  • Level Two Catalogs - Level two catalogs are simple catalogs that use multiple pages to display the products or services offered. This could be a level one catalog with pages that detail each product. Show Me Or it could be catalog pages that use catagories to organize your products. Show Me or a combination of both.
  • Level Three Catalogs - Level three catalogs are catalogs that have dynamic components to them. They are generally used for products that come in various colors or sizes. Show Me
  • Level Four Catalogs - Level four catalogs dynamically create themselves using data contained in file. This is typically used with a database system that contains all of the products and information, it can also be used to hold options, like size or color, that are offered with many products you want to sell. • Shopping Carts
  • If you are selling products on the internet a shopping cart is a great feature to add for your visitors, it allows them to select and pay for more then one of your products at a time. Generally this works by giving your visitors "add to cart" buttons instead of "buy" buttons, the product and product cost is kept in a cookie or hidden page until your visitor is ready to buy the products. When your visitor is ready to pay they would "check out."

Before sending your visitor to pay, a shopping cart can collect your visitors information and that information can be "processed" for various reasons. You could have the information sent to you through email, or it could even be used calculate and add shipping & handling costs to their total based upon the shipping address they entered.

A shopping cart can also simplify the task of keeping track of orders from your website by assigning automatically generated order numbers and if you offer options for your products, it can send you "hidden" stock numbers that are never seen on the website. A shopping cart can also offer bill to/ship to services, gift wrapping, and express ordering to your visitors.
